Introduction:

The National Curriculum sets out what children should be taught.  Attainment targets set out the expected standards of pupils' performance and schools may choose how they organise their school curriculum to cover the programmes of study from Year 1 to Year 6.

Children in Nursery and Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We also adopt the following whole-school strategies in our teaching delivery across school:

  • Phonics: Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised
  • White Rose Maths
  • Talk for Writing
  • Sounds & Syllables

At Asterdale...

We provide all pupils with a curriculum which is broad, balanced and stimulates learning.

We aim to develop the skills and knowledge that help our children grow in confidence and maturity, enabling them to pursue academic, social and cultural activities.

We promote a range of enrichment activities and experiential learning.

Forest Schools is a key element of our curriculum offer at Asterdale Primary School.  All pupils engage in our Forest Schools programme across the entire school year to further enrich and enhance their learning.  Outdoor learning is used to further our teaching and learning wherever possible utilising our great school grounds.

The curriculum consists of programmes of study and comprises the following  subject areas -

English (reading and writing), Maths, Science, History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art, Music, Physical Education (PE), Computing, Religious Education (RE), Modern Foreign Language (French) and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE).
